Paper Thin USB Key Turns Magazines Into USB Distribution Method

usb webkey

It’s a bit complicated of a article title, but the point is this:  It is now possible to put a paper thin USB key into a magazine ad to drive customers to your site. This fresh approach to implement USB technology into marketing is extraordinary to say the least. Now don’t misunderstand me, I’m not talking about a flash drive with storage, I’m talking about a “web key.” A USB webkey is simply a device that auto launches your web browser to a specific web page.  That’s it.  But it’s incredibly powerful. Now a major retailer or manufacturer can send a magazine reader directly to a webpage via a paper thin USB key.  I’d try it just to see if it would work.  I would try it just to see if there was storage on there [if I wasn’t a USB-super-geek]. The process is simple.
  • Step 1 – Open magazine and see the ad
  • Step 2 – Pop out the webkey
  • Step 3 – Connect it to a USB port on your PC
That’s it.  Now your reader is on the web checking out your next greatest invention [Honda Unicycle] To learn more about the USB webkey contact USBcopier. Continue Reading

Keep Piggies Warm With XMas USB Heating Gloves

Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to turn our energy to Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Since Thanksgiving isn’t a Brando thang, they’ve got their eye on the biggest holiday – Christmas. So putting aside that I’m in Southern California, for those in Michigan, Wisconsin, New York…hell anyone East of California could appreciate these USB heating Christmas gloves.  Right?

USB heating gloves, Christams theme

How about your hands freezing and slowing down your reaction when you are playing game? Sure you’d look ridiculous, but you can’t sacrifice your skills.  Or how about stuck in an air-conditioned office space because your boss is 400 pounds and needs an ice locker to work in, the USB Christmas warming gloves would help.  Continue Reading

Impressive Porsche USB Drive

Porsche is shipping a limited number of Panamera USB flash drives and we’ve got the pictures.  It’s clearly a drive with a great amount of detail and pristine looking Porches logo on the USB cap.

porsche usb drive

It’s not clear if this is a marketing piece for Porsche or things to come about how we interface with the cars.  Wouldn’t it be nice however, to have a USB key to start your car, upload recent maps, download car statistics and diagnostic information, sync MP3 files with your stereo.  Seems to me the term USB key has been accepted quite nicely by everyone BUT the car manufacturers.

LaCie Partners with Designer Philippe Starck For New USB Hard Drive

Press Release

PARIS, FRANCE (OCTOBER 6, 2009) Today LaCie, in collaboration with world-famous designer Philippe Starck, announced the LaCie Starck Desktop Hard Drive and the LaCie Starck Mobile Hard Drive. The new products showcase more than just Starck’s iconic signature; there is an intellect revealed throughout each component of the design. From Philippe Starck: “Technological genius explodes exponentially, each time with incredible power whose limits are yet to be known. The power remains, never abating, symbolically characterized by the sculptural magma that one attempts to cleave, to master within this geometrically perfect strongbox. A symbol of strength mastered, of freedom guided, of incandescent magma heeding to the form of its cast. The interpretation is free. But the mystery remains.”

USB Soldering Iron Is One Hot Rod

Thanko is getting us one step closer to computers fixing themselves with the USB soldering iron.  The USB soldering iron can heat up to 390F on a single USB connection or 570F with a dual connection so it’ll handle just about any quick fix job you need while out on site.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Hard Drive

Buffalo is the 2nd company to announce a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 external hard drive.  Although anyone can make the claim, we know the players who mean what they say.  Buffalo always delivers so we are anxious to get the green light on purchasing…the DriveStation by Buffalo is the fastest USB hard drive on the market [or will be] with transfer speeds over 125MBs/second.  WOW.

Buffalo USB 3.0 hard drive

According to USB-IF, Buffalo HD-HXU3 will be powered by Fujitsu MB86C30A USB 3.0 to SATA IC. If Buffalo’s current DriveStation series is any indication, Buffalo will likely use the Fujitsu IC’s AES USB encryption engine, and ship with some version of Memeo’s AutoSync backup software. Also launched is a USB 3.0 card to take advantage of the new SuperSpeed USB mode. Buffalo will initially ship the USB 3.0 drive in 1TB, 1.5TB and 2TB sizes and include the add-on card.  You can expect the USB 3.0 hard drive from Buffalo to ship in Asia and UK markets by end of Q4 and  the US by early 2010. USB KVM Kit Turns Your Laptop Into Portable KVM Station

Have you ever thrown your hands up in frustration because you simply want to use the Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse of a laptop to access a server or other standalone device?  I have, but never know what product could help…now I do. The Portable Laptop KVM Adapter from StarTech is specifically designed to turn your notebook into a portable KVM station.  Simply connect the adapter between your standalone [or GUIless device] and notebook and you’re off and running.

portable KVM station

I would think the biggest market for such a product are large data centers where they need to access any number of servers without a full KVM installation.
“Aside from a rack mount LCD console, which can be expensive, server administrators and technicians would typically have to use a server room ‘crash cart’, which is a cart comprised of a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Although a typical ‘crash cart’ is somewhat mobile, it lacks the portability of our Laptop KVM Adapter, which provides identical but more convenient control”.
The NOTECONS01 USB 2.0 Laptop KVM Adapter offers immediate BIOS-level access to the connected computer from the laptop control point, as well as the ability to handle full configuration of the attached PC, server, or other headless machines such as ATMs, kiosks and VLTs.

But the portable USB KVM station doesn’t come cheap, the MSRP starts at $470. Thanks Andrea! Continue Reading

USB Ferris Wheel

I had doubts putting this post up today.  Honestly it’s just for the pure novelty of it all.  Brando has a USB Ferris Wheel for your office.  Yes, that’s right, a ferris wheel to make your work day just that much more fun. The problem is how annoying the USB toy really is.  You’ll either throw it out the window or you’re co-workers will.  I’m not even sure if kids would enjoy this after 3 or 4 seconds.

I can’t post the video of the USB Ferris Wheel working, but click over to the Brando site and check it out yourself. I really shouldn’t have posted this useless USB novelty.  [$30 + shipping] Continue Reading

We Say Thank You to Thanko For Their USB Record Player

GetUSB has seen the Record to USB players from Ion Audio before and we’ve seen these filter into Costco, Wal-Mart and even Urban Outfitters, and now Thanko has joined the ranks with their new USB Record Player.

USB record player

Granted, it’s not designed with the same conversion tools that Ion Audio has, but it does work with Windows Sound Record or Mac’s Garage Band, so conversion of vinyl to MP3 is totally possible.  In fact, many might prefer their standard apps to do the conversion rather than deal with a 3rd party software package. Either way, the Thanko USB Record Player is a nice addition to that old-school sound for just $100 bucks.

Thanko hasn’t released a US version yet, but you can get one now from Japanese retailers here. Continue Reading

Before we begin the USB tutorial on NT60 boot sector, review the checklist of items needed before you start. Chances are, if you find yourself searching for this tutorial, you already have everything needed to make a USB bootable with NT60 boot sector.

When selecting your flash drive, be sure there is nothing you need on the device as this process to create an NT60 boot sector will clean the drive of all data.

  2. Plug in your USB stick that you want to make bootable with NT60.
  3. Open Command Prompt with Administrator rights.

  24. As the last step, go to your Vista DVD and copy ALL the content to your NT60 bootable flash drive.

Note: If you are a Microsoft publisher, OEM or OED, please contact Nexcopy for more information about NT60 boot straps and related Microsoft specifications.

2025 Relevance Note

As of 2025, creating an NT60 bootable USB stick is rarely required. NT60 was designed for Windows Vista and early Windows 7 installations. Modern systems primarily use UEFI boot loaders and GPT partition tables, making this manual NT60 process mostly obsolete. The only common scenarios for creating an NT60 bootable USB today are for legacy system maintenance, forensic recovery, or historical testing environments.

Modern Alternative

For modern bootable USB creation on Windows 10, Windows 11, or newer operating systems, you can use dedicated tools that automatically handle boot sectors, partitions, and formatting. One of the most popular options is Rufus, which simplifies the process and supports both BIOS and UEFI systems without manual diskpart commands.
