Microscopes have long been a favorite for kids looking to see the details. With the ProScope HR USB Microscope the convenience of getting close is infinitely easier.
Designed like a toy gun, the USB microscope is like a point-and-shoot device with the ability to capture what ever is being viewed.
There are three methods on how to use the microscope.
Touch View – hold the microscope to item being viewed
Distant View – Using one of the lens kits view an item from a table top.
Analog Microscope – Connect the ProScope to a traditional analog microscope for viewing and capturing image
The ProScope HR magnification range is from 1x to 200x. Construction of the unit is durable and ideal for classrooms or CSI crime scenes.
With the on-board camera, the ability to take snapshots and save images to your PC via USB is what truly makes this a convenient tool. The microscope is designed with backlighting to provide illumination while viewing.

GetUSB.info closed our latest poll asking the all important question about speed: “Is Your Flash Drive Speed Important?”
After 178 votes, it came down to most care but not by much. 40% didn’t care how fast the flash drive was, just as long as the speed wasn’t dog slow.
With file sizes getting bigger and now the average amount of data stored on a flash drive being over 1GB – one can’t help to look at transfer speed. One of the worst things to wait for are file transfers – like watching paint dry.
Thanks everyone for voting. If you’d like to see our latest question, visit GetUSB.infoContinue Reading
Xion Audio is now available for the U3 flash drives. This portable application is for the music enthusiast and is advanced enough for those wanting to fully customize their player.
Xion is setting a new standard in skin players. Their approach is to read directly from a Photoshop .PSD file to be used as the skin. The support is advanced enough to tag different layers within your .PSD file and properly display graphics on your player.
What is especially nice about this player is that skin files (which can get very large) can be zipped and Xion will extract on-the-fly to create your skin. This approach decreases the amount of memory needed to run the mini-application.

I read an article today about the growing concern of worms embedded on USB flash drives. With the popularity of UFDs it’s important to protect yourself so that viruses, worms and identity theft don’t happen to you. This new type of worm is embedded on UFDs, than automatically runs when connected to an operating system.
Computer owners should tread very carefully when plugging an unknown device into their PC as it could have malicious code planted on it.
The best way to prevent a worm or virus from entering your system is disabling the autorun file on your Operating System before connecting the USB thumb drive.
Since memory prices have dropped the USB stick is a hot item for tradeshows, give-aways and direct mailers. For this reason, it’s important to protect yourself from unwanted viruses. In addition, these flash drives could become a big threat to companies as the financial motivation to obtain secure information has big payoffs.

Linksys, a division of Cisco, released their new Wireless G USB Network Adaptor aimed at small business. What Linksys did with this product is incorporate range booster technology to increase signal strength and improve data transfer speeds.
The RangeBooster technology makes the claim that range will increase by double and data transfer speed will increase by about 35%.
And if you’re concerned about security, well then wireless products might be a little scary. Linksys covered their bases with a WPA2 256-bit encryption engine along with a Security Monitoring abilities to get the low-down when there’s a crack-down.
No word on pricing or availability.
The long awaited wireless USB hubs are starting to show their face. Belkin did a push for nearly a year before their wireless hub came out; Gefen just made their announcement about a 4 port wireless USB hub.
This is an excellent choice for those having peripherals further then a common USB cable connection. The Gefen WUSB hub uses a USB dongle at the host PC and will communicate up to 60 feet to the wireless hub.
Since these types of products have not hit the shelves yet, the real-world transfer rate is yet to be determined. The specification calls for data transfer rates between 55Mb/s to the max of 480Mb/s (wouldn’t that be nice) but I believe that will depend more on distance.

With summer just around the corner now might be a good time to start thinking about how to keep cool.
Elecom put some design effort into their latest USB fan collection. Along with design efforts, they must have gotten a new photographer – these are probably the most sexed-up USB fan pictures you’ll ever see.
IOGear is like a rising tide when it comes to cranking out USB products for Geek consumption. It just never stops coming.
From the long list of new IOGear products, here are the four most needed geek items you must have.
1) The IOGear wireless laser mouse with germaphobe coating. I mention this because not only having a wireless mouse is a must-have, but raising the geekness level to the antibacterial state is definitely cool.
2) Show me one Geek who wouldn’t like to have another monitor. And since a primary intrinsic value of geekness is saving space, working from a laptop is very standard, thus limiting the options for endless monitor configurations. The IOGear USB VGA video card adaptor is definitely a must-have for the monitor lacking.
