Capture video direct to H.264 video files for your iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, YouTube and even full resolution video backups from Blackmagic. So why is Blackmagic so great? Because it captures video into the native file format of your mobile device like iPod or iPhone.
The Blackmagic USB video recorder plugs directly into your PC via USB and using the included, easy to use software from Blackmagic you can recorder VHS, Video-8 or content directly from your video camera recorder.
The software has a graphical interface to quickly and easily identify your destination device during job setup to begin the ripping process. The software includes a cropping tool because sometimes your VHS tape has black borders or time display stamps. Well not anymore.
Check out this image of the software interface. It’s clean, simple and logical.
So getting excited and ready to pull the trigger on a purchase or maybe work it into your next months gadget budget. Well be sure to set aside $119 + shipping.

I’m on the left coast, so not exactly sure on why Pexagon had the motivation to create a New Yorker USB Hard Drive [customer request], but none-the-less, it’s here and available.
The Pexagon New Yorker hard drive has over 4,000 issues of the East Coast’s favorite magazine. The Complete New Yorker gives you instant access to every poem, short story, cartoon and ad since the magazine’s inception back in 1925.
Pexagon is known for their engraving to USB storage devices and The Complete New Yorker is no exception. The hard drive measures 3 x 5 inches and has a brushed aluminum front with beautifully etched New Yorker logo and icon. The magazine archive takes up a small percentage of the 80GB hard drive so the $65 price tag gets you not only storage but a great opportunity to educate yourself and become well read if you’ve been living under a rock for the past 80 years.
I would imagine someone interested in this would need to be a die hard fan of the magazine, so now the question is: Are you?

Pexagon Technology has a fresh, contemporary way for schools to raise money for their academic and extracurricular activities via USB. The idea is simple, offer a 1GB gift card to schools, kids and parents where by the purchase results in a customized 1GB drive with their school mascot or logo.
The USB fundraising plan is simple; the schools contract an agreed bulk price with Pexagon along with customized logo design, the school then set their own gift card price which best suites their community. The delta between the cost and fundraiser purchase price goes right to the school club or program.
With memory prices constantly decreasing, this is an excellent way to get valuable technology into the students hands while providing contributions to their schools fundraising activities. If parents had to choose when buying flash memory, I’m sure they’d opt for USB fundraising option.
To learn more about USB fundraising with Pexagon you may contact Shane Schmidt for more details. Here is the contact page: USB Fundraising with Pexagon Technology.

Cruising around last night, I found CoolBuzz posting some new USB designs – which are far from Cool Buzz. (sorry guys). Lets take a look:
I like the idea of convergence, but a cyber-latte which “fills up” during USB data loading is a little rediculous. Maybe good for a 2nd grader who needs to understand the concept, but I think we are all savvy enough to check capacity using the properties function.
Next up, and along the same line would be the hourglass and pie-chart shape. Wouldn’t you love to have that pie-chart sticking out the side of your laptop? Introducing a heating plate on that huge platter to keep your latte warm might be worth it, but even then a hard sell. The hourglass?  Come on. No comment there.
The only product I could see working is the Empty or Full USB device, and this would only work in one niche market. NASCAR.

Having poor cell phone reception is a frustrating thing and it seems there’s always a zone you can’t get a call, regardless of courier. I’m lucky enough to get 4 bars of reception at my location, but my neighbor who works less than 1 mile away, gets only one lousy bar.
Southern California has rolling hills which plays havoc for cell phone providers. Until now that is. If your home or office is in a dead zone, or an area with low quality reception consider this cell phone signal booster, or signal extender.
This bad boy will boost your weak signal into full bar reception. All you need is at least one bar to let the cell phone extender do it’s boosting.
The mobile phone signal booster will add 2,500 square feet of pristine clear reception to where ever the installation is…that’s about 3 additional rooms or offices.
So what does something like this cost you? Just slightly more than cancelling your cell phone contract, about $250 bucks.
Jump over to ThinkGeek to get the details and different models available. You need to select the correct model for your courier service. It’s one of ThinkGeek’s hottest sellers, so it’s obviously worth the investment.

..or at least a professional sounding podcaster. I’ve considering doing the podcasting, but I want to build up my reader subscription a bit more. The Alesis USB podcasting kit doesn’t care who you are, it’ll work on Mac or PC computers. The kit is designed for the novice user with features an advanced technical geek would enjoy.
Stream from 16 bit, 44.1-48kHz directly from your computer and use the high-quality headphones for monitoring your session. The USB podcasting microphone makes it a snap to get connected and get going.
One of the best applications for this type of product, other than being self-absorbed and loving the sound of your voice on the net, would be setting up a portable studio for trade-show interviews with customers, clients and critics. With the ease of setup from the Alesis system, your booth could have a podcasting station for in depth interviews, tutorials on products or guest speakers you could immediately deliver to the world via podcasting and the internet. After all, the classic 10×20 booth with some posters and fliers is so old-school.
The Alesis USB podcasting kit is priced at just $99 bucks. A drop in the bucket for anyone reading this post.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a background image for the USB window upon connection of your USB storage device? This simple, quick USB hack will show you how to create a background image. In this example, I inserted the GetUSB logo at the bottom of my USB window, like this:
To perform this simply copy the following information:
[ExtShellFolderViews]
{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}={BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}
[{BE098140-A513-11D0-A3A4-00C04FD706EC}]
Attributes=1
IconArea_Image=your background picture
Change: the IconArea_Image= to the name of your jpeg file…I did: getusb.jpg
Next, save the code above as desktop.iniLast: place the ini file and the jpg file in the root of your USB drive.
Refresh or reconnect your device and …bamb…USB background image done. Tip: The image will repeat so when creating the jpeg be sure to leave plenty of white space in your image file. I used a canvas size of 800 x 800 pixels and placed the GetUSB logo near the bottom.

Set Top boxes have a big limitation in that you get Pigeon Holed into one device such as AppleTV or the forthcoming NetFlix unit, but the Myka could change the landscape forever. The Myka is a BitTorrent device which will work with anything the web has to offer and can download/play MPEG2, H.264, WMV and DivX media.
As Wired reports, the Myka is userfriendly because it takes the nerd out of the BitTorrent process. The Myka is intelligent enough to provide content (legal or otherwise) from a Peer2Peer network without all the advanced skills often required to pull off a BitTorrent download. The Linux based box is a simple connection to the TV via HDMI, composite (ouch), S-Video or SPDIF and connects to the internet via eithernet or WiFi. The Myka comes with a variety of internal hard drive configurations (80, 160 or 500GB) and includes an external USB port for additional storage or future connectivity / peripheral options.
“There’s no way the content providers will allow this pirate box on the market, right? Wrong. Myka already has the official BitTorrent service on board, which means it will carry legitimate content from 20th Century Fox, MTV, Warner and Playboy, amongst others.”
Wired posted a full interview with Myka’s president Dan Lovy, so if you’d like to learn more about the Myka set top box which will rule them all, jump.

Today, April 9th 2008 is the official CSS Naked Day. This is why GetUSB looks simple and plain.
On April 9th, 2008, hundreds, possibly thousands, of blogs and websites will go naked in honor of CSS Naked Day.
This is the third year of the annual CSS Naked Day which honors web design and designers around the world who help make our websites and blogs look “pretty†to the eye while still being totally functional under the hood.
Dustin Diaz wanted to give the web world an opportunity to remind everyone of the benefits of CSS web page design. By removing the stylesheet for the day, the world would see naked web pages, giving a little more appreciation for the skills of web page designers.
I think you’ll agree – CSS is an invaluable tool – GetUSB looks so much better in my slick, customized CSS style sheet.
Today is also an opportunity to showcase how usable and accessible my web page structure is even without the pretty, reminding the world that it is the law that your website must accessible by everyone using any method to access your blog.
