Maxfield released their sleek looking MAX-IVY MP3 player just a several month ago. The new product is very attractive, small with high-tech magnesium casing. Sizes are available from 1GB to 4GB and play all the formats one would expect (MP3, WMA, WMA-DRM, OGG, MPEG4, AVI, WMV, JPG). At 14 hours play time and only 42g or 1.5oz the model definitely peaked our interest.
Our friends at Gadget Centre had the following to say in their review,
“The GUI itself is pretty good; the functions are clearly listed and presented with a large icon on the IVY’s decent 1.8in color screen. Unfortunately though, the navigation via the touch sensitive scroll bar is flawed; it’s generally unpredictable and frustrating, particularly when attempting to scroll through large menus”
“Flip the IVY over and you’ll find a sparkling black plastic back housing the only ‘real’ control, the on/off/hold switch – everything else is operated via the pressure sensitive controls on the front. The magnesium casing mentioned earlier really does seem to work, our review sample withstood the acid test of being lumped into a pocket crammed full of strangely sharp keys and managed to emerge as smooth as a Pampers wearing baby’s bum.”
In conclusion Gadget Centre states, “It’s a big shame that the scroll bar isn’t more effective because other than that the MAX-IVY is an excellent little player: in the box you’ll find a wide range of extras including an AC adapter, a lanyard, a rubber case/belt clip and USB connecter, the audio quality is good though as ever you’ll need to upgrade the phones.
