USB Steampunk: Imperial – The Eagle Has Landed

Yes, we have a soft spot for USB steampunk of just about anything.  Here is another design release from WWWorks aptly named “Imperial.”

USB steampunk Eagle

Like the USB Scorpion steampunk, the Eagle wraps around the tail of the USB with the LED in the position of the beating heart.  What beauty.  What symbolism.Brass tubing protects the inner USB but is also very decorative for looks, the etched brass overlay holds the dark red garnet cabochon above the LED.  The head and tail plugs which hold the USB inside the brass tube is made of scorched wood with “highly visible grain” to give it the old craftsman style look.

Made in Budapest you can pick one up for just $180USD off Etsy. Continue Reading

Windows Phone 7 Offers USB Tethering

There was a tweet about Windows Phone 7 offering USB tethering.  It first started with a claim the feature will be available, and it would be available withour the courier adding additional charges.  Unfortunately, that claim has been retracted.  However, there is still hope for USB tethering.

I think in all likelyhood, Windows Phone 7 will offer USB tethering so you can get to the internet through your phone, but it’ll be with a data plan surcharge. That’s OK by me for the moment because sometimes it’s critical to get your data while on-site or at a remote location where there just isn’t an option.  In addition, this would give WP7 a nice edge on Apple products who don’t let you tether. What do you think? Continue Reading

CoolerMaster Intro’s 95W USB Power Adapter Thats Universal

CoolerMaster is definitely taking advantage of the Universal Serial Bus we’ve all come to know as simply USB.  CoolerMaster introduces a universal power adapter which connects via USB.  The new USNA95 is a 95watt power block.  It can easily power your laptop, netbook and USB devices.

CoolerMaster USB adapter

The USNA95 has a simple Red and Green LED to indicate whether a device is being power properly so even the tricky GPS units and SmartPhones will get the right amount of juice. The power cycle time is also faster for peripheral devices as CoolerMaster is stating a 30% faster cycle time to power your devices than a traditional device to PC connection. The USB power adapter is also the smallest one we’ve seen with a size of 62 x 17 x 104 mm and is texture surfaced to provide a durable case for when taken on the road.  Video after the jump Continue Reading

Japanese Company Makes Dock Station An iDream

Yet another “i” product for all those Apple gadgets, but this time we feel it’s a product worth mentioning.  The iPADock is a dock station to power or sync all your Apple gear in one handy location.  The iDevices has designated USB power ports, designated USB-to-PC sync ports and additional flash memory ports for SD cards, SDHC and Compact Flash downloading. So if you haven’t asked yourself how to clean up your sync area at work or home for the Apple gear…don’t worry, that day will come.  For example, at our house we have 4 iPhones, two iPods, a FlipVideo and several cameras.  All of them will receive power via USB.

iPad dock station

First off, we have 4 iPhones because we’ve migrated from 3G or 3GS to the 4.  The iPods are legacy products we had before the phones, yet we still use them for workouts…and the cameras, well those are good anytime. What I like about the iPADock station are all the power and sync options. Continue Reading

Serous About Headset Comfort? Check Out The HS1 USB Headset From Corsair

The Corsair HS1 USB headset is about as serious as you can get for superior audio while gaming, watching movies or simply Skyping.  The all new line from Corsair is a bit out of their comfort zone of storage and cooling gear, but at least they’ve done it right.  Headset gear is an essential part of enjoying intense games like FPS Doom, Half Life or Halo.  In addition it keeps the other half equally as happy [meaning Mom’s, girlfriends and wives don’t b!@ch about the cranked up noise].

Corsair SH1 USB headset

The HS1 was built for supreme audio with massive 50mm drivers to deliver more accurate low-frequency effects in a carefully tuned acoustical design.  The clear, low-noise reproduction of the unidirectional noise-canceling microphone lets teammates hear better, and with extra-large inline volume and microphone controls it’s easy to grab and control sounds given the situation of the game. Some other notable points before making the jump to Corsair for full details: Continue Reading

Lenovo F360 USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Hard Drive

With the fast pace of our multimedia lifestyles it’s getting more important to be able to transfer or save large files more quickly.  With this future trend it’s nice to see the USB 3.0 products hitting the market in larger quantities with different product offerings.  Lenovo is introducing their first portable USB 3.0 hard drive, the F360. With the 3.0 getting integrated into more products, it’s nice to see a large industry leader like Lenovo getting on board.

Lenovo F360

The slim F360 USB hard drive is only 11 mm thick with a brushed metal surface treatment and unique etching process to give it a contemporary look.  The no screw chassis is an additional feature, which I guess, is more common these days, but still looks great. The F360 will be a 7200RPM drive and includes a new calibration chip [no info on which one] which guarantees data transfer efficiency, error correction and security to insure your data is always safe, yet accessible. Intel Planning Some Native – Adding USB 3.0 Chipset

If rumors are to be true, Intel will be adding a USB 3.0 chipset to their winter 2010 lineup.  The Intel Developer Forum is expected to showcase an Intel Cougar Point chipset for desktops.

USB 3.0, Intel

For a bit, it was said Intel will forgo the the USB 3.0 chipset in favor of LightPeak technology, but maybe that technology has hit a bump in the road?  Odd to have Intel flip-flop like this…or wait, maybe not.Currently integrators are turning to a third OEM for the USB 3.0 like NEC, but the Intel native would help reduce expense of motherboard manufacturers and speed the adoption of USB 3.0 technology into laptops, desktops and tablets. Viewsonic With Android ViewPad and USB Port

Viewsonic is throwing their hat into the ring for tablet PCs this coming week at the IFA 2010 technology show.  The new Viewsonic ViewPad appears to be a 7 inch model with touch pad buttons running the side of the case for navigation.

ViewPad Viewsonic

There is very little information about the device but what we can glean from the image shown below there is a front facing camera and what appears to be a microphone pick-up, a headphone jack and a lovely USB port.

I get the felling there will be tablets everywhere this year aat IFA. Continue Reading

PS Jailbreak Sales Solution Held Up In Red Tape

PS3 jailbreakingOver the past several weeks we’ve read reports about the PS3 Jail breaking solution via USB whereby the jailbreak tricks the console into thinking it’s in debug mode and thus gives you access to the device like never before. The PS3 jailbreak would allow the use of illegal games as well as homebrew games to be played on the console.  In addition, the hack also blocked mandatory updates from Sony which could overwrite the hack and secure the device once again. Jail breaking like this is nothing new, in fact we’ve heard about it with the iPhone for [literally] years.  However, with the PS3 it was a bit different.  It was different because the PS3 has been a platform which has remained unbroken or un-hacked [if that’s a word] for nearly a decade.  That is a feat no other gaming company has Continue Reading
