Mimobot introduces three new Hello Kitty USB flash drives. As with all the Mimobot creations, these are fun and colorful USB flash drives with a very unique look. Forget about those rectangle sticks China cranks out month after month, get a Mimobot.
The USB Hello Kitty models are “Fun In Fields,” and “Apple,” and finally, “X.”
The default size for all the Hello Kitty USB drives are 2GB at $25. You can double the capacity to 4GB for just another $10 dollars. Or you can double the price [total cost $50] for the 8GB version.
If you aren’t down with the business model of Mimco and their Mimobots, then all their styles are limited edition, so if you are a Hello Kitty fanatic, you better act fast. Traditionally they only make 2,000 of each model.
Here is the landing page for the USB Hello Kitty product line.

Have you ever thrown your hands up in frustration because you simply want to use the Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse of a laptop to access a server or other standalone device? I have, but never know what product could help…now I do.
The Portable Laptop KVM Adapter from StarTech is specifically designed to turn your notebook into a portable KVM station. Simply connect the adapter between your standalone [or GUIless device] and notebook and you’re off and running.
I would think the biggest market for such a product are large data centers where they need to access any number of servers without a full KVM installation.
“Aside from a rack mount LCD console, which can be expensive, server administrators and technicians would typically have to use a server room ‘crash cart’, which is a cart comprised of a keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Although a typical ‘crash cart’ is somewhat mobile, it lacks the portability of our Laptop KVM Adapter, which provides identical but more convenient controlâ€.
The NOTECONS01 USB 2.0 Laptop KVM Adapter offers immediate BIOS-level access to the connected computer from the laptop control point, as well as the ability to handle full configuration of the attached PC, server, or other headless machines such as ATMs, kiosks and VLTs.
I had doubts putting this post up today. Honestly it’s just for the pure novelty of it all. Brando has a USB Ferris Wheel for your office. Yes, that’s right, a ferris wheel to make your work day just that much more fun.
The problem is how annoying the USB toy really is. You’ll either throw it out the window or you’re co-workers will. I’m not even sure if kids would enjoy this after 3 or 4 seconds.
I can’t post the video of the USB Ferris Wheel working, but click over to the Brando site and check it out yourself.
I really shouldn’t have posted this useless USB novelty. [$30 + shipping]

I have mentioned other 35mm Slide Scanners, but today I found one which is 100% standalone, no PC required!
This standalone 35mm Slide Scanner allows even the most technologically challenged person easily scan old 35mm slides into digital archives.
In just seconds the scanner will turn your 35mm image into a .jpeg photo file. You have some options to see the resolution of the digital image, with a maximum resolution of 3,600DPI [dots per inch].
The new jpeg image is instantly saved to the SD memory card sitting inside the 35mm slide scanner.
To insure the image is what you expect, the unit includes an

The Windows IceBox is an interesting little tool. It’s a software program which runs from a USB stick that locks down partitions on your hard drive. The concept is that you lock down partitions on your hard drive so that other users, like your kids, don’t get in there and start accidentally deleting important files, registry entries, uninstalling software, etc.
The USB Windows IceBox includes recovery software for your hard drive and has the ability to block virus software or malware programs from getting into your computer.
From my perspective, it’s a nice little tool, but if you have the smarts to partition up your hard drive, you probably have the smarts to create multiple users as well. See the USB Windows IceBox will lock down your partitions when you walk away [certain amount of idle time] but you can do the same thing with User Login priveleges. Just don’t give your kids

GetUSB has seen the Record to USB players from Ion Audio before and we’ve seen these filter into Costco, Wal-Mart and even Urban Outfitters, and now Thanko has joined the ranks with their new USB Record Player.
Granted, it’s not designed with the same conversion tools that Ion Audio has, but it does work with Windows Sound Record or Mac’s Garage Band, so conversion of vinyl to MP3 is totally possible. In fact, many might prefer their standard apps to do the conversion rather than deal with a 3rd party software package.
Either way, the Thanko USB Record Player is a nice addition to that old-school sound for just $100 bucks.
Thanko hasn’t released a US version yet, but you can get one now from Japanese retailers here.

Could this be a military technology booby-trap? Doubt it, but it would be cool that’s for sure.
The Hand Grenade USB drive is your classic gadget gift for that x-military relative or friend who can’t get enough of the History channel.
Available in four colors [white, blue, orange, black] and different GB capacities.
The starting price is $20 of 4GB storage from Gadget For All.

Converging technologies collide. At first, I thought this to be just another MP3 player, but it does more than just play music.
The USB MP3 cassette player also works as a car stereo adapter to connect your iPod or iPhone, CD player or a different MP3 player. Or simply insert a loaded SD card with MP3 files and your car will play that too.
If that isn’t enough, connect the USB cassette player to your PC via USB cable and turn it into a SD, micro or miniSD card reader.
It may seem over simplistic or gimmicky to you, but to me it’s a nice mix of converging technologies. Believe it or not, I’m buying one right now.

So here is a sweet little deal I stumbled upon at USBFever. For $27 you can get a USB hard drive case with biometric fingerprint encryption scanner.
Given how cheap USB hard drives are these days, it’s easy to have them become your backup device of choice. Well, if you’re like me, chances are you are backing up the QuickBooks or MAS90 accounting programs which need a bit more security. It would be bad enough to lose your portable hard drive, so at least protect it with your fingerprint.
The USB hard drive case with biometric encryption supports the IDE / USB 2.5″ hard drive sizes along with plug & play insertion and removal.
The fingerprint biometrics supports all Windows platforms, but not Mac. So if you’re about to drop $15-$20 for an external case, pay just a couple bucks more and get the USB encrypted version.

iLuv is showing their love to USB with this three port charger. Not only does it support multiple devices, it looks cool too.
iLuv put in a flip-out AC adapter so if the USB charger needs to be stored or thrown in a desk drawer it’s a bit more compact. Not much else to report about it other than a $20 price tag and available in Sep 09.

Back in June of 2009 I made a joke that GetUSB.info had a USB Steampunk award, now I’m seriously considering it. Especially after seeing this new rendition.
This USB steampunk drive was made by a Russian modder. He traveled to a local rag fair [I’m assuming street fair] to pick up old clock parts and gears. The guy also picked up some stock brass tubing and screw rods to build a sturdy housing. Then off the the metal shop.
The source website, EnglishRussia, has the entire tutorial on how to do this crafty artwork. It’s far more interesting than educational, so if you are curious about the

Don’t you hate it when you buy a new gadget and don’t have the batteries it needs? This new keyboard from Adesso avoids that let down. Batteries ARE included. No more scrounging around for those AA Batteries that you need just to get this keyboard to work
This little keyboard is great for the multi-media user. With the 100-ft range you can sit on the couch, relax, and set up your music without having to get up and go to the computer. Or if you are that Fortune 500 CEO and you are doing a presentation in the conference room. You can now walk around the room and still control your media presentation. Even if you are just the basic computer user you will find much utility and love for this little guy. It is an easy to use, plug-n-play, keyboard that requires no
