Super 16 Port’er USB Hub

I don’t have USB connectivity issues, but I believe many do.  The super 16 port USB hub will help in those situations.  The plethora of ports will give any computer uber-geek the ability to connect just about everything in his office to a single computer.  But even then, the uber-geek has the ability to split up those 16 ports to be shared with two computers…thus spreading the geekness all around.

usb super hub

The super 16 port USB hub has a switch for setting ports to computer A or B.  Or you can simply keep all 16 ports designated to a single computer.  Connect your printer, several cameras, web-cam, your handful of USB drives, USB fan, another USB fan if you overheat easily, maybe a USB mask, or USB wrist pad, and of course a USB aroma drive.  I think you get the picture. The super hub comes in at $140.  Fully supports the USB 2.0 specification and has a designated power line to insure optimal performance to all those USB powered gadgets.

Kensington ShareCentral – It’s a USB Hub Two Computers Use

sharecentralIt’s a USB hub two computers use.” Sounds off doesn’t it? It’s not. What the Kensington ShareCentral does is provide a single USB box you can plug your USB devices into so they maybe shared between two computers. This is ideal for printers or scanners that need to be shared between computers (small office). Or ideal for placing a USB hard drive on a small network for automated backup. Or simply a KVM switch to centralize your keyboard, video monitor and mouse between two PCs. Actually I could use that now between my “work” computer with dual monitors to my “test” PC which could use dual monitors. I spotted the ShareCentral while over at GizmosForGeeks earlier today. They had a good point:
Chances are that if you’re reading this blog, you’ve probably got multiple computers in your household, but on the other hand, you’ve probably decided against cluttering your home with multiple printers, external hard drives and the like. But it can be such a pain to keep swapping those devices amongst your various computers. Enter the Kensington ShareCentral USB sharing device.
If this bit of news peaked your interested you can check out the latest price on the Kensington ShareCentral at Amazon.

Nexcopy Offers USB Duplicator With USB Copy Protection

Update: Nexcopy Develops In-House Copy Protection to Support Mac OS

As of 2025, Nexcopy no longer partners with TrusCont for USB copy protection solutions. This strategic shift was driven by Nexcopy’s commitment to supporting both Windows and macOS platforms. TrusCont’s DRM solution did not support Mac, which became a critical limitation for many users. To address this, Nexcopy developed its own proprietary technology—Copy Secure—a hardware-based USB copy protection solution compatible with both Windows 10+ and macOS. The Copy Secure flash drives offer true read-only, copy-protected media with cross-platform support and no software installation required by the end-user.

Original Article Starts Here

We’ve seen plenty of data encryption solutions for USB, but what about true Digital Rights Management for USB drives and their content? Nexcopy seems to be thinking the same thing. Nexcopy has teamed with TrusCont to offer genuine DRM technology for flash drives.

The USB Copy Protection solution includes the ability to protect both .exe and .pdf files. For each format, users can configure time limits, password protection, anti-copy safeguards, and anti-rip controls. For PDFs, additional restrictions such as disabling copy/paste and printing can also be applied—making this a true digital rights management solution for USB.

The enhanced USB drive offers more than just copy protection—which is already groundbreaking—it also allows end-users to configure:

  • USB CD-ROM partition
  • USB Read Only partition
  • Or a combination of those, plus an Open partition for general read/write access

CD-ROM partition For maximum flexibility, the flash drive can be reconfigured repeatedly with either a USB CD-ROM partition or a USB Read Only partition. If you’re looking to build your own U3-style USB drive, test auto-launch software, or deploy secure media for enterprise use—this is the platform to explore.

Nexcopy is offering the TSFD Publisher Kit, which bundles their USB duplicator with TrusCont’s copy protection software and configuration utility. Kits are available in quantities of 50, 100, 300, or 500+ enhanced TSFD USB drives.

I’ve requested a demo unit to explore the system firsthand and will report back with details.

Targus Folding Speaker System for iPod

Targus launched this ultra portable, yet powerful iPod speaker system, AEM0702AP, for music on the go.  The speaker system can be powered by a handful of AAA batteries or via USB power.

Why Targus hired a marketing firm who places their speakers in a pile of rocks with weeds sticking out is a complet mystery.  If these folks are trying to send the message of a lovely afternoon at the park, then grass, picnic basket and a couple glasses of wine should have been the props here. Maybe they are trying to convey the portable iPod speaker system will get you to “rock out.”  Doubt that. In either event, the Targus speakers will run you about $45 bucks plus a plane ticket to Korea. Source: AvingUSA. Continue Reading

FilterMyRSS – Mosaic – Contest – You Win

So exactly what IS going on here? Well, today I found my FilterMyRSS logo on an internet mosaic image [yes I run that site]. There must be a thousand websites which make up the mosaic. I think they found me through this site. Anyway, I spent a good 40 minutes trying to find my logo somewhere in the mosaic page. The FilterMyRSS logo looks like this: ..and somewhere in the crazy looking web mosaic is my logo. Here is a smaller pic of the mosaic: mosaic So the question becomes. Can you find the logo? I’m sure you have better things to do with your time, but I’ll reward you with a 2GB Flash Drive if you find it. Just send me the image with a circle around the location. If there happens to be more than one entry, I’ll do a random draw. I’ll keep this live for two weeks [July 10th] before updating the image with location. Good Luck! Continue Reading

Flip Your Bit USB Utility To Make Local Drive

BootIt is a Lexar based utility to flip the Removable Media Bit setting of a USB drive.  What this means, is you can take a Lexar drive (and many other brands) and make it appear as a Local Drive on your PC rather than Removable Storage.

This is absolutely necessary if you are looking to partition your USB drive or try some trick hack like run your iTunes from a USB stick.

bootit

The RMB or Removable Media Bit is present on all flash drives, but whether the Lexar utility can flip it is something of trial and error.  Although it goes without saying…and I’ll say it anyway…the utility works with Lexar drives, everything else, use at your own risk.

Flip your bit BootIt is a freeware program.  Download it here.
