Video: USB Engine Isn’t a Joke

GetUSB.info reported on the USB Engine Hub back in June ’07 from SolidAlliance and we scratched our heads on the reason why. Well the product is real (which we didn’t doubt) and below is a short clip of what the USB engine hub can do. What we didn’t report on…or didn’t know at the time…is the USB engine also vibrates during operation. What is comical about this, and you’ll see it in the video, is the USB hub vibrates enough it could easily fall off your desk. So your USB hub could end up pushing your $1,500 DSL camera off the desk and onto the floor. Makes total sense. Can’t see the video? Click for the YouTube link. Continue Reading No Comments

The Social Network Bubble

I lived through the dot com bust back in the late 90’s and now the internet is buzzing again with Social Media and Social Network sites as our next big cash cow. Even the buzz about Blogging has gotten a little out-of-hand. Today I found a nice YouTube video spoofing the social network bubble and whether it’ll burst as quickly as the dot com days.

USB Ghost Radar

If you believe in ghosts you believe in Santa. That’s my one line take on the USB ghost radar. However, I can understand my opinion would differ from another’s. For that reason the details of the USB ghost radar is as follows:
usb ghost radar…with an array of sensors, alert lights and complex algorithm the USB radar detects the paranormal by analyzing the sensor data factors and biometric feedback from your skin and lunar-cycle adjustments. For the most part the sensors take in information dealing with unusual magnetic waves in the room.
Now the USB gadget beeps to alert you of change in magnetic waves (possible ghosts) and uses activated LED lights to visually show you intensity of the present paranormal “being.” The LED lights on the USB ghost radar also indicate position of the Scooby Doo target along with possible “risk” factors. It seems this product would have a very niche market. Continue Reading No Comments

USB Shroom Lamp – Mushroom That Is

The office space can get mundane at times. Most work spaces I’ve seen include an off-white wall, few posters or pictures with cold hard desktops, so there is nothing left but to stare into the computer screen. The USB mushroom lamp could help liven up your work space. Maybe get your office one step closer to Frank’s Cubicle – after all isn’t this the Holly Grail of office spaces?

usb mushroom lamp

The USB mushroom lamp comes in three different colors; red, green and blue. The distributor, Brando, suggests these glowing gems could remind you of those not-so-long-ago Mario Brothers games, but that’s a stretch. Would you object to an office space looking like this: Continue Reading No Comments

USB Man

USB Man is a man of mystery. I’ve got the picture but not the source [for buying]. The USB man takes the traditional USB hub and turns the USB ports into hands and legs. With a USB cable used to connect hub to PC, the USB man is buss powered…meaning it’s best used for small tasks such as copying files from a digital camera or UFD…not the best hub for larger jobs like using a USB hard drive as external storage. For those types of tasks, it’s best to get a dedicated power supply.

The USB man is 120mm x 102mm x 11 mm and costs about $32USD. I’ll post the source link when I find it. Continue Reading No Comments

Wireless Belkin 5 Port USB Hub Share’s The Love

Buy.com is currently running a special on the Belkin wireless 5 port USB hub and I thought to share the tip. Right now you can get the $100 wireless USB hub at just $79. The discounted price requires a MIR for the cash-back $20. Being able to reduce the amount of clutter in ones office, even by a cable or two, is always a noble cause. The Belkin wireless USB hub allows you to stream line your office and reduce the cable count by 5. Not bad I must say. Plus you get to share the love [wirelessly] with printers, scanners, network connections and digital cameras.

Using the wireless USB hub lets other computers on your network think a printer is directly connected to a PC, so instant and reliable access from any PC to a remote or introvert printer is np.You will need a router to make this bad boy work and transfer speeds will vary by environment and distance. But for $80 it’s worth giving this wireless thing a shot. Belking Wireless Hub product page. Continue Reading No Comments

Review: USB Card Reader for microSD Cards

Several weeks ago I picked up a 1 penny (yes 0.01) card reader for microSD cards from USB Fever. Today, I set aside some time to see how well the little bugger performs…and to my surprise, very well. Introduction: The microSD USB Card Reader is very compact and comes with mini lanyard and plastic case. The device is unique in that all components for the card reader sit inside the USB Type-A connector. It makes for an extremely small and portable reader, and can be, at times, difficult to pull out from a stubborn USB port. However, given the idea of what this product is all about – compact, portable performer – it didn’t bother me too much.

I compared the performance of a direct connect of the microSD card through the USB card reader to the microSD adapter provided to me from SanDisk when I purchased the flash memory. When using the SanDisk adapter, I did need a USB card reader which could contribute to Continue Reading No Comments

Lindy 57-in-1 Mirror Card Reader and Mirror Hub

Over the course of 2007 we have seen our share of jewelry USB drives, now we see vanity making it’s way into the market place. The new Lindy USB Mirror 57-in-1 Card reader and Mirror USB hub are now available for high tech connection and personal reflection.

Stephen Fawcett, Senior Product Manager states:
When we asked our development team to come up with a compact device we didn’t really expect them to literally deliver a ‘compact’. Fortunately, they didn’t include the powder in the spec. But it’s very handy for checking you haven’t left a bit of marmite on your chin or seeing what colleagues are up to behind your back.”
Unfortunately the Lindy website isn’t up to date with this press release, but GetUSB did find the card reader will go for 22.99 and the hub for 14.99 USD. Source: Spanish GetUSBinfo Continue Reading No Comments

Rechargeable Clip Light Has USB Back End

It’s called a USB rechargeable clip torch but I’m not sold on the term torch…sound like something needs to go up in flames. Rather, the rechargeable clip light uses a USB port on the back-end for juicing up during down time.
usb rechargeable light
The convenient and portable LED light comes with a couple different clips so attachment can be made virtually anywhere. At just $14 the rechargeable light also affordable for just about anyone. The LED light portion and USB connect portion do rotate a full 180 so it’s fairly easy to get optimal positioning…as with this book clip light illustration.
