Gadgets Monkey tipped us about this one – Buffalo of Japan has limited edition USB flash drives. Buffalo is finally getting past the simple silk-screen and going with molded statuettes. The limited edition figurine collection (only 5000 to be made) is comprised of Mickey Mouse taking the helm, Winnie the Pooh, doing what he does best – eating, and Stitch getting loose on his surfboard.
Available only in Japan sometime in February you’d better make the jump if you’re looking to A) buy some because you’re a Disney freak or B) looking to make a quick buck from an eBay addicted Disney fan.

Widget Engine for U3 allows you to run 1,000 of widgets directly from your U3 flash drive. Take your Yahoo! Widgets everywhere you go. Below is the link to grab the Widget engine and install it onto your flash drive.
Be sure you have a U3 flash drive and it’s inserted and active (powered up in PC) in your OS before installing. The download is 10.7MBs and from there you can launch for installation. The Yahoo! engine comes with some Widgets pre-installed. You need 32MBs of space on the flash drive and need to run at least Win2000 or XP with SP1 or better. Sorry Mac folk, since U3 is only Windows compliant you are SOL.

SanDisk, the 2nd largest seller of MP3 players just gave the well known Sansa a face lift. The Sansa Connect is the next step in wireless MP3 players. What we like about the Sansa Connect is the ability to access your music or photos via any Wi-Fi hotspot. This means the storage capacity of the player itself isn’t limited, but rather your PC storage capacity determines that – something we all know is east to upgrade.
In addition, the Sansa Connect receives a wide range of music subscription services and streaming Internet radio. With a “live” button to connect into communities and grab features or recommendations for music genres. At 4GBs you can stuff (on average) 1,000 songs into the flash memory, but again, virtually unlimited when exchanging anywhere, anytime via Wi-Fi. Product is expected to hit March of 2007 at about $250USD.

Tired of grey and black colored Flash drives? USB flash drives are now candy colored thanks to Transcend’s Jetflash V60.
The drives are available in four colors, with each color corresponding to a different storage capacity: orange is 512MB, blue is 1GB, red is 2GB and green is 4GB. All the Transcend drives come with basic security software including a program capable of locking your PC from prying eyes and wayward fingers alike.
A Transcend press release for the Jetflash V60 claims that “Now everyone can transfer to a paperless society.” Yes, Western civilization was just waiting for the V60 to appear in order to be convinced that a paperless society was viable.

Lexar announced their new Lexar JumpDrive 360 USB Flash Drive at the 2007 CES show. The new style is a capless design and encased in a rotating metal jacket you flip out before use – kinda like a switch blade.
All Lexar drives will now ship with BitLocker Drive encryption software and Windows PE 2.0 for Vista. Of course Lexar is claiming the JumpDrive 360 is compatible with ReadyBoost, but who isn’t making that claim these days. Finally, Lexar will include their PowerToGo software on the JumpDrive 360 and all other devices, which BTW is a spit image of U3.

Patriot Memory is claiming the world’s fastest flash drive at the CES 2007 show this year. The X-Porter XT Version 2 can achieve 39MB transfer rates. Now besides the fact of anyone reproducing a manufacturers test specs, lets take it at face value – WOW that’s fast.
With flash drive capacity getting larger and larger this type of news is well received. Now, if iPods and PDAs could get this transfer rate then we could do much better things on Friday night then sync our portables. Available capacities are 1GB to 16GB…what, no 32MB version? – I’d like to transfer all my data in 1 second.
