Press Release – Burnaby BC., June 19, 2007 – Icron Technologies Corporation (TSX Venture: IT), the developers of ExtremeUSB® announced that Gefen Inc, of Woodland Hills, California, has launched a wireless USB 2.0 extender based on Icron’s ExtremeUSB technology at this years InfoComm 07 show in Anaheim, CA from June 19th to the 21st.
The Gefen wireless USB extender supports the connection of hi-speed USB 2.0 and 1.1 devices up to 100 feet from the computer. It works with both Apple (OSX) and PC (Windows, Linux) systems using Icron Technologies’ ExtremeUSB based on 802.11g technology. The receiver is a four-port USB hub that can support multiple devices by adding additional hubs. Data can be delivered at high speeds, thanks to optimized circuitry.
“We believe this reliable and wireless method of USB extension will significantly enhance the way systems operate well into the future,” said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO. “Subsequent versions will also support multiple receiver hubs connected to one sender unit, allowing a same time distribution that delivers data real-time with no cables.”
Like most of Gefen’s extender solutions, the wireless USB 2.0 extender uses small sender and receiver units connected to the computer and to the extended USB devices. No cables are needed to link sender to the receiver, which allows connection to cameras, keyboards, printers, hard drives or any USB 2.0 devices at distances up to 100 feet away.

FMWeb School released a USB security dongle which ties in with FileMaker database solutions – USB Sentry. It’s like the database is hard coded to the UFD device. The inviting point about this solution is when a database developer sells the customs solution the USB Sentry insures unauthorized copies of the database are not distributed. You need the physical security stick to launch and install the database.
Here is a typical scenario:
You sell your solution to your client. They pass it around the office and email it to their friends. Suddenly you hard work is being passed around for free. You are losing money since they are only buying single copies of your software.
USB Sentry is a USB security technology that allows you to distribute your database on UFD and ties your custom application to that UFD device. Your software is bound to that specific drive. Now they can no longer use multiple copies of your software since it will not open without the correct USB stick.

Lets take a look at the first of two USB powered gadgets for today. The USB Frog Massager is everything short of feature rich. Push the frog eyes and the little bugger goes to work on massaging those sore muscles for back, shoulders, arms and legs. I doubt you’ll get a Prince with a kiss but for those desperate geeky gals – you can give it a try.

I for one am a wireless USB mouse guy, but those looking for a techno kid gift, this might do the trick. The liquid optical USB mouse is available in Little Ducky or Nemo Fish and swims upon movement. I can say with 99% accuracy nothings making them move other then your vigorous shaking – think Nemo turns up-side-down after too much?

Smart PC Solutions certified their Smart Data Recovery Software (like there’s a dumb version) for the U3 portable UFD platform.
The data recovery U3 software supports FAT and NTFS drives and easily recovers data from any flash type for use with any USB powered gadget like; hard disk, digital camera, UFDs basically any flash memory. What you may like about this package is the ability to recover files of any type and even when the partiation table is lost!
USB sticks have long lost the luster of the early days when it was cool to have no matter what they looked like. Today, most of the ubiquitous sticks look like the computers they are meant for – pretty darn boring. Why not change that a little and add some soul to a otherwise lifeless object.
Here is a new release, the porcelain memory stick, a 1GB UFD in a handmade porcelain case featuring USB 2.0. The Porcelain Memory turns the traditional notion of a memory stick on its head and offers a hand crafted, beautifully glazed piece of technology in a non-tech body, and the presentation really shines when the operating LED starts glowing through the china.
To make each porcelain UFD unique each carries it’s own hand knit pouch. Not a USB deal at $125, but you would be the only one the block with one.

There are far-n-few between geeky gals out there to make the USB Handbag something of value other than an exercise in creative design. Here the designer, Dima Komissarov includes the USB purse to inflate [like USB Spongebob] as capacity increases.
Don’t know about you, but it all looks Photochop’d to me.

Wireless keyboards are a dime-a-dozen and sometimes the low-end just wont do. Wireless Computing turned their back on standard wireless keyboards and produced a high-end, commercial grade wireless keyboard that also carries 2-way data encryption technology for secure communication.
Albeit not a common need of the average computer user, USB input devices like this make it possible for retail and commercial organizations to do business without sacrificing security.
The RF-250 encrypted wireless keyboard can distance itself about 100 feet from the USB dongle and include a detachable wrist rest and [touch] mouse pad.

White Stripe have announced the full release of Icky Thump will become available on a USB music album.
The album size is 512MBs and will be released in two editions with total circulation of 6,666 units. Half of the distribution will be creepy looking Meg and the other half creepy Jack.
If I where to design this product the ratio would be reversed. I’d create a 3 USB port adaptor with one cigarette plug. After all, I only need one car frig to keep my beer cold at the baseball games. But I do have an MP3 player, phone and camera I’d like to charge up while on the drive over.
The Brando 3-in-1 car adapter with USB port is definitely a good idea. There have been several occasions where I’ve wanted one.
UberGizmo brings up a good point – it might not be the best idea to daisy chain some USB hubs off the single port to power everything you’ve got. Might strain the car battery too much over a long period of time, none-the-less, an excellent item to have for those long hauls.
Brando has them for $20 and ships to the US (and globally) very quickly and inexpensive.

Okay, so the VW Bus is missing the flowers, but the USB clock radio is kinda cool when in the shape of a gelopie van.
Available in the four color configurations (above), you get a fully functioning AM/FM radio along with alarm clock which displays out the rear window. If you’re looking to down-grade your sound system connect an MP3 player or CD player to the Volkswagen USB bus via audio jack for below par sound.
Obviously a “green” VW Bus as no gas is needed, just a AC power source or USB connection to your PC.
Product retails for about $65 USD and can be purchased directly from Abaido.
