USB Video Player Concept Device

Ian Murchison is an Industrial Design engineer at Carleton University in Ottawa Canada and came up with some outstanding product ideas.

Ian’s most recent design is the Video Player Slideon with USB connectivity (above). From a recent email interview Ian developed this product design from his original Slideon concept (below).

A follow up design was needed as a lot of people liked the original design, but some were also looking for a more “video player” type design.

As with the original, it’s a slider concept meaning;

…it is nice and sleek without any buttons sticking out in random places. USB connection on the back, also equipped with Bluetooth for sharing, transferring, and streaming.

It may look like there are just 4 buttons, but it fact the middle is one long touch sensitive bar which acts as a way to scroll through menus and adjust the volume. It’s very thin (check the headphone connector size). Flash memory based of course, with target capacity of at least 20GBs.

Here are the previous designs of the Slideon from Ian.

I am very impressed with Ian’s design work. The elegance and simplicity of the Slideon is what makes it so unique. The attention to detail and extra care to keep all surfaces flat and smooth are what the public wants – at least what I want. Although the Sony mark on the first picture is for logo placement – if anyone from Sony is readying this – hit Ian’s link and send him a contract for design work.
