Actor Morgan Freeman and his production company Digiboo are trying to break ground with sales and distribution of movies via USB. We love the idea!
USB Movie sticks might become a thing of the future as Digiboo plans to launch over 100 kiosks in Hollywood Video stores next year; the first will roll out in January. People will be able to plug a USB device into the kiosk, download movies to rent or own, and then plug them in to any USB 2.0 or 3.0-compatible devices.
Before you ask, yes, DRM is layered into the movie content so put away your ideas of bit-for-bit USB copies to pirate your movies. However, you now own the content on a portable device which will pug into just about anything including xBox or game consoles, cars, computers and set top boxes. No word on how transferable the format will be to get the rented video from USB to something like a iPhone or PDA for portable playback.
About two years ago we started reporting on the USB music albums and now it appears we’ll see more articles about USB movie sticks.

Not the cougar we’d like to mention, but just as hot. Brando has a Transformer USB stick that goes from 2GB of storage to Cougar in a couple twists and turns.
Granted anyone over 30 probably couldn’t get the stick back from cougar shape to USB shape, but that’s half the fun, right?
The cougar comes in the black body shape or the spotted white and green body shape.
Sure you can grab a 2GB stick for under $10 over here, but for the USB Transformer drive, it’ll more than triple, at $45.
Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to turn our energy to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Since Thanksgiving isn’t a Brando thang, they’ve got their eye on the biggest holiday – Christmas.
So putting aside that I’m in Southern California, for those in Michigan, Wisconsin, New York…hell anyone East of California could appreciate these USB heating Christmas gloves. Right?
How about your hands freezing and slowing down your reaction when you are playing game? Backyard Brand is looking to coin a new phrase with their FlashHarp USB drive. I’m classifying this under hand crafted USB because it’s a relatively simple mod of a harmonica to include a USB drive.
Granted, Backyard came up with the idea, so props to them.
They do a good job of selling the concept with: “Even if you never master the art of blowing the harp, you’ll never have to throw this harmonica in the back of a drawer. Sweet gift for anybody, young or old, who really likes music.”
If this stick gains any kind of traction we can expect china to knock off a plastic version of this in about 3 months or less. Granted, it’s not your typical custom USB drive, but for those looking to get the original mod, head over to Etsy and grab yourself a 2GBer of sweet soul for $44USD.

I’ve read several articles about how to improve the iPhone, most notable are CNET’s comments and iSmashPhone comments. Both articles have good ideas about improving the iPhone software, but there are five user improvements which I would like to humbly suggest.
To me, these are fundamental improvements for an everyday user. What do you think?
1) How many times have you read an email chain with an attachment? With the small screen of the iPhone even the shortest email requires you to scroll. With a long email you must scroll forever to get to the attachment. Why can’t Apple make a “paper clip” icon at the top to jump directly to it?
2) I’m the type of iPhone user that likes to keep everything clean and up-to-date. So why is it that I can listen to a Voice Mail from a recent caller, but I still need to click the “Recent” icon to remove the notification. It should be removed automatically when

If Nexcopy where to make a movie about USB duplicators and data loading USB flash drives, this would be the movie trailer to draw in attention.
Clearly, it would be ‘the most boring’ movie in the world, but I’ll have to admit the movie trailer is quite impressive given the mundane product.
Nexcopy did a good job of putting a unique spin on their product announcement for the new 40 and 60 port USB duplicators via a movie trailer. The 1 minute video gives you just enough information to peak your interest, yet doesn’t bore you enough to click away.

Porsche is shipping a limited number of Panamera USB flash drives and we’ve got the pictures. It’s clearly a drive with a great amount of detail and pristine looking Porches logo on the USB cap.
It’s not clear if this is a marketing piece for Porsche or things to come about how we interface with the cars. Wouldn’t it be nice however, to have a USB key to start your car, upload recent maps, download car statistics and diagnostic information, sync MP3 files with your stereo. Seems to me the term USB key has been accepted quite nicely by everyone BUT the car manufacturers.
In Feb of 2007 Belkin introduces their USB transfer cable to get from XP to Vista. Now Belkin has their USB transfer cable to get you from Vista to Windows 7. From everything we’ve heard and experienced, we expect nothing less than a mad rush for users to get away from Vista and try anything new.
The two-ended USB cable plugs into your old Vista or XP computer as well as the new Windows 7 machine. Then you launch the Easy Transfer application shipping with Windows 7 inside “Start | Programs | Accessories | System Tools”. Once there, you can migrate files, users, bookmarks and emails onto your shiny new rig.
Since many programs might not be Windows 7 compatible, Belkin puts together a list of what those programs are with links to any updates available for the software. Seems to me that database would be a nightmare in itself, but hey, we’ll drink from the water cooler.
The Belkin USB transfer cable from Vista to Windows 7 retails for $39 – but we found it on sale for $22. Not much to avoid a headache and make life a bit easier, right?

We know the Nano and iPod Touch don’t come with speakers, so it was nice to see the latest product roll-out from Green Power. Their sliding speaker system is quite nice, compact for the iPod line.
A miniUSB port makes the connection between the iPod and the speaker system. Green Power reports a long playback of nearly 12 hours, but I find that hard to believe because my iPod barely stays charged for 12 hours using the ear buds.
The slider speakers are 1.5Watts which should carry a fairly good sound for desktop use at the office or maybe a quite pool side background music.
No report on price, but if they tag it more than $25, you wont see many takers.
