Lebedev Studio released a prototype USB hub based off a light prism. The creativity and look as very cool with a clear communication of how data transfers through the device.
To bad the colorful USB cables aren’t available and I believe it’s just a design style not yet available.

Here is a great looking Steampunk Custom flash drive. The creator, Marcos, put a brass shell around the outside of this USB stick, then decorated the outside with miniature gears and watch components.
It appears Marcos took the USB cap and attached it to the end with some included brass gears and other Steampunk detail.
The custom flash drive uses a piston gear from the USB connector to the watch components as a representation of the power from the PC being transferred to the heart of the USB stick.
The 2GB steampunk custom flash drive is only $50, is 100% handcrafted and completely unique. There is limited stock, so if interested get on it.

Pretec is about to introduce an aptly named eSATA/USB dual interface flash drive named Cobra. This ultra fast flash drive has max read speeds of 90MB per second and max write speeds of 60MBs per second.
The dual channel interface has the eSATA connector at one end and the USB connector at the other.
The Pretec Cobra is available in 32GB and 64GB sizes, which is respectable given the fast transfer rates. This info was sourced via Engadget China, so no word on pricing or availablility.

USB tethering is a nickname for getting internet access for a computer through a cell phone. Well, it seems the iPhone 3.0 beta software will have that feature and a programmer has [currently] figured it out.
Scott Forstall, Apple’s Senior VP of iPhone Software, stated on Tuesday that the feature is now built into the OS, but carriers will have to choose whether to take on all that extra network burden and allow access. As developers continue to tinker with the iPhone OS 3.0 beta, though, one has unlocked access to iPhone tethering and taken it for a spin.
An iPhone developer, Steve Troughton, was tinkering around with a couriers itcc file [network access files] and managed to get his iPhone tethered.
The ability to tether an iPhone is not a technical challenge; it’s a network challenge. Computers can haul far more data down a connection than a cell phone, and many carriers are simply not ready to provide that large of a wireless pipe to 17 million iPhone owners.

Could this be a threat to the Apples iTunes store? The idea is loading up your applications via USB cable, rather than via iTunes store. This type of app installer would eliminate the need for an iTunes app store.
It seems there are several non-Apple sponsored app stores popping up which is the first step to threaten iTunes…but a direct load via USB cable would even threaten the unofficial app stores.
The blogosphere has been talking quite a bit about the new LaCie USB key chains, in fact, I did a post just the other day about them. Well, yesterday LaCie sent GetUSB.info the iamaKey model. Here she is in the wild.
The iamaKey is a beautiful drive. Extremely solid, heavy and doesn’t scratch easily. LaCie put a lot of effort into the design and material selection to make one outstanding drive. I’ve used dozens of flash keys and most end up failing and in the trash. With the durability I see here, the iamaKey will last.
So here’s the deal…I’m going to keep the iamaKey on my keychain until it breaks. I use USB sticks daily so there will be frequent tests. I’ve also been known to forget my keys in my pants, which ultimately ends up in the wash…so there are many stress test opportunities.
I’ll report back when the device fails, but don’t expect an update anytime soon.
