Billy Idol’s Hot In The City is a tune which comes to mind whenever talking about USB gadgets that cool thyself.
With summer coming into full swing, this is a good time for a USB fan mention. Cruising the Amazon website this Aikoper product popped up. At first glance I honestly thought the fan was designed by Apple Computers. The aluminum base, slick black body and the cool grey vents, thought it was from Apple for sure. Wrong!
This USB fan has some unique features we believe everyone will like.
There is no switch for turning the fan on or off. Rather you touch the aluminum base. That is very Apple’esc. A single tap to the base and the USB fan goes into “low speed” mode. A double tap will put the USB fan into “high speed” mode. The third tap will turn the fan off. The touch sensitive base has four rubber pads to insure no vibration during operation.
The fan itself is a dual-blade design. Meaning there are four blades toward the front of the bionic shaped shell and another four blades near the rear of the black shell. The idea here is reducing the device noise while in operation.
The black shell case is convex in design to pull air down and into the system, rather than up and into the system. Although the pitch of the shell isn’t great, we may assume less dust and dirt will come into the system from a pull-down air flow design. The curved shell sits on a the aluminum base with some pitch mobility to angle the fan a bit higher or lower for optimal position while in use.
The Amazon listing has over 1,609 ratings with 61% as a five star product, 13% as four star product and the balance just picky people trying to be overly critical. To give you an idea of product feedback and experience, here are some testimonials from the Amazon listing:
James Bond could use a gadget like the USB cuff links. How else could you slurp GBs of data from a secure area then waltz out without anyone knowing. Ok granted that’s a poor example of how you could use the USB cuff links, but it makes you wonder, they would be kinda cool.
Designer Ravi Ratan is looking to up your geek look with the expensive $195 links and with storage to 4GBs no less. For those seriously considering this, also consider the possibility for engraving of up to eight letters.

Yes we do…or at least the 64GBs of memory…and yes, I said gigabits, not megabits. No word or price for the Spongebob drive, but it’s expected to display at CeBiT 2009, so we’ll find out soon enough.

Gizmodo did an interesting post today, it’s as though they knew I purchased an iPhone over the weekend. Yes, I’m part of the “cool kid crowd.” Giz did a post on a new iPhonecustom flash drive. It’s a cute little thang, with two eyes, a red dot mouth where the home button is and two munchkin feet.
By pulling the top rubber lid, you expose the USB for connection. No word on the price, but you can visit the site if you really need one.

Are you ready to get blown away, USB style? Well Joel Escalona is…and this prototype design yields some interesting insight and reflection. The USB bomb is designed to store your digital content with a visual of deterring anyone from attempting to steel your digital gold. Looks like Joel has some serious content worth protecting.
Although the USB gadget isn’t in production, there are plenty who want to see it made and with such a unique shape and design, an interesting add-on to your work space.
If Joel could team up with some security software or maybe use some open source code and incorporate a total self-destruction mechanism for unauthorized users – well, that would just top it off and blow us all away. Wouldn’t it?

The catch phrase from Firebox for the USB Desktop Dunk is “Shoot hoops without breaking a sweat.“Â Not bad – and looks like a great little gadget gift for the young ones.
Complete with 4 mini basketballs the goal is to bounce them into the hoop. You can put the USB Desktop Dunk to good office use in “competition mode” which is 2 minutes of pure stress trying to get the high score. Or, if you need to sharpen those virtual hoop skills, chill in “continuous play” mode.
For added stimulation, the USB Desktop Hoops game throws out some audio fanfare with every 10 points scored (it scores 2 points per shot).

Here is an eclectic set of USB gadgets which I think would be ideal for Frank’s Cubicle. I found the USB desktop multi-tasking organizational gadget over at ThinkGeek [via OhGizmo] and what kind of organization are we talking about? Based off the lightening fast USB speed of 1.1 you get:
1 – USB cup warmer
1 – USB mini desk lamp
1 – USB mini vacuum
1 – Open USB port (still 1.1)
1 – Pen cup holder as center base with no USB connectivity.
The USB multi-tasking device does make a good gadget gift and with the recent price drop from $30 to

On the heels of USB missile launcher with webcam we have the Wireless USB Missile Launcher from Dream Cheeky.
I’m not sure how much value the wireless missile launcher brings to the table, other than distancing yourself another 15 feet from the firing source, the webcam version with MSN software controls seems a little better.
None-the-less, if your boss doesn’t allow Instant Message software on your PC then roll in the Wireless USB Missile Launcher. At 15 feet distance, it would be easy enough to hide it behind a plant and fire “at will” from an office down the hall.
Albeit a direct hit on the forehead of your boss would be funny enough, I don’t think
