USB-C to Lightening Cable, Unique Combo For Sure

We really don’t like reporting about cables. It’s boring. But this post is going into publication for two reasons: 1) The model used to show off the product is a complimentary image {wink} and 2) It’s actually a unique feature combination for a USB cable.

Hyper has a new USB-C to Lightning cable that makes it convenient to keep the cable near by and doubles as a cleaver key-chain holder. The new HyperDrive Cable series includes Key-chain, Lanyard, and Tough. All of the cables are MFi certified (Made For iPhone/iPad devices) and make use of bulletproof ballistic nylon for high durability and longevity.

The cable length is 3.3 feet, or 1 meter.

Made of TOUGH 2m material by Hyper. This is material that can withstand 70kg of tension before something bad happens.

The key-chain has made of aluminum and screws into the capsule like casing which also doubles as the housing for the ends of the USB-C and Lightening connections.

They Hyper cable starts out at $27.99 USD at the time of this post.

Infinite USB Cable, Clever Idea, Know the Details

Infinite USB is a concept which dates back five years. The concept is brilliantly simple. The USB cable design allows multiple devices to be charge from an extending USB plug, and at the same time, allow data transfer through that one original USB port.

Infinite USB

Today, Infinite USB has released a new version for the Mac computer. One which supports Apple’s Type C connector. This is a really smart move on Infinite USB’s part because the Mac computer only has one USB port. So additional sockets is very important.

Like the original design from years back, the connection is simple and straight forward.

Infinite USB, Apple

Using the original USB port of the computer, the Infinite USB creates a pass through, or extended USB port. They do this so that once the Infinite USB cable is connected, you still have access to the data transfer ability of that original Mac USB port. However, Infinite USB was ultra-clever and created a design to steam off some power form the USB buss so you can charge additional devices.

The USB connector builds upon this concept with module cables and connectors so you may continue to high-jack power off the original USB socket, while still having the original USB port with data transfer capabilities.

To be perfectly clear, the Infinite USB will only transfer data to one USB device… it will not transfer data to all the devices connected. It is important to understand the Infinity USB concepts is a creative charging station, not a USB hub.

The product can be found on Kickstarter for $20. There is only one day left at the time of this writing, after that you can order product through the company website.

Good luck guys, we love the product!

Install iPhone Apps Over USB

Could this be a threat to the Apples iTunes store?  The idea is loading up your applications via USB cable, rather than via iTunes store. This type of app installer would eliminate the need for an iTunes app store. It seems there are several non-Apple sponsored app stores popping up which is the first step to threaten iTunes…but a direct load via USB cable would even threaten the unofficial app stores.

So what gives?  The app, called Continue Reading

USB Cable Gets Hitched With SD Technology

The desk drawer to my left is full of card readers, USB sticks, cables etc.  It’s just too much.  Last week Brando sent me an email with their latest idea to reduce the clutter and global waste of all these connection devices.  It was a USB cable with an SD card reader built; in-line. Take away the fact that it’s ANOTHER cable I will have, the idea of putting connectors in-line a USB cable is brilliant.

USB Cable Runs Your Back Up Software

Backing up your data is probably the #1 item most computer users neglect, ignore or simply don’t pay attention to.  Most times it’s because the software is too difficult or you don’t have the right storage device to back up your data [sat DVD, DLT tape etc].  Well, this article should change your mind.

usb backup cable

ClickFree has a very unique and convenient solution for data backup.  Using their USB cable and embedded backup software [embedded on the cable] you can backup any computer to your USB hard drive, USB stick or anything else USB. No software to install or setup.  Works right out-of-the-box.  Just plug the Clickfree Transformer into the computer, then plug any external USB hard drive into the other end of the Transformer and it converts the external hard drive into a Clickfree backup drive.  Automatically starts, finds, organizes and backs up all of your data onto the external hard drive. The ClickFree software is robust enough to support over 400 file types.  Here is the category breakdown for you: Continue Reading

How Good Are Bus Powered USB Devices?

usb bus powerHow good are bus powered USB devices?  That’s a good question and the answer depends upon the device and the application.  To start, let me summarize situations / products you could find problematic.  From here we can determine what & when “bus power” is best. Most problem situations are with USB devices which require a heavy load of power.  Products such as USB disc [hard] drives, external USB CD or DVD burners etc.  With these products you need a lot of power, if you don’t get it, you have problems.  If the power running through the USB cable (the USB bus) to your device is not enough good chance the product will fail.  Problems such as drive failures, burning CD coasters or repetitive USB disconnects during operation. With the larger USB hard drives coming out this is where you need to pay attention.  I would recommend against purchasing a “USB hard drive” where the drive itself runs from USB bus power. But lets say you’ve covered your bases and purchased a USB hard drive with an external power adapter – now we must consider the connection to your computer?  Many times I’ve heard users making the connection via their Continue Reading
