Best USB Steampunk Flash Drives for 2012

What is it about USB steampunk flash drives?  Am I the only one with a keen interest in showing off these hand crafted USB drives?  Could it be the material used which draws my attention?  Could it be the fine detail of each device which peaks my interested?  Could it be the impressive number of hours required to make each piece?  I’m not sure, but I could flip through pages and pages of these USB steampunk drives. For 2012, here are the top 12 styles.  There is not particular order as each person will favor their own, but you will agree these are probably the 12 most unique designs you’ve seen the past twelve months. steampunk USB steampunk USB steampunk USB Continue Reading

Steampunk USB Cufflinks Will Break the Bank

We’ve reported on USB cuff-links before, but we’ve never seen them with a steampunk twist…and you know we love USB steampunk gear.

This is a fine set of steampunk design work, with the small gears so well placed inside the walnut case. Very nice. The addition of 8GBs of storage make it usable as well. Granted, the cost of $200+ is steep, but I’m sure it’s a one-of-a-kind art piece. The idea of using them for an event is unique, but I sure wouldn’t want a job which requires them. We’ve read these USB cuff-links are something James Bond would wear…but I’m sorry, James Bond has never been a steampunk guy, he’s much too classy for this cult following design work. Bring Back The Old School Typewriter, Via USB

There is nothing more satisfying for a finger work-out then using a laboriously slow old school typewriter.  Or on those cloudy days where you feel a bit melancholy and in the mood to write the start of a novel you’ll never finish, you may need to punch down on those exhausting keys of a manual typewriter to get the creative juices flowing. Today I present you that possibility and better yet, with a touch of technology to  make your craving a bit more current.

USB typewriter

A well known steampunk modder [Jack Zylkin] has taken the traditional typewriter and transformed it’s key punching into a digital conversion of letters and numbers.  Using some customized PCBA, a USB connection and a bit of code it’s now possible to sync your great grandmother’s typewriter with your computer, or in this video, your iPad. Your craving wont go without some minor cash flow issues, as you can purchase a pre-made [or pre-mod I should say] USB typewriter or you can buy a kit and down grade your very own typewriter and keep the family air loom alive and kicking.
