New 1-MHz USB DAQ for OEM and Embedded Applications
CLEVELAND, OH, February 1, 2006 – IOtech has just introduced the new 1-MHz/16-bit
DaqBoard/3000USB(TM) Series of data acquisition boards which are ideal for OEM and embedded applications. These are the first USB-based versions of the popular, industry leading DaqBoard data acquisition boards. The new DaqBoard/3000USB Series is also the industry’s first 1-MHz/16-bit USB-based DAQ to break the $800 price barrier. Each board in the series provides true multifunction performance with analog inputs, waveform capable analog outputs, 24 high-speed digital I/O, four counter inputs (quadrature encoder capable), and two timer outputs.
Software included with the DaqBoard/3000USB Series is extensive and includes the new DaqView(TM) 8.0, full-featured Out-of-the-Box(TM) data logging and viewing application, plus comprehensive support for all popular programming environments including Visual BasicÂ®, Visual Basic. NETÂ®, Visual C++Â®, Visual C#Â®, DASYLabÂ®, LabVIEWÂ®, and MATLABÂ®.
The DaqBoard/3000USB Series includes a wide variety of synchronous, multifunction I/O in a single device priced from $749 to $1,199. The DaqBoard/3000USB Series advantage over other multifunction USB devices is it is less than half the price, yet offers more than twice the performance plus a host of additional features. Low-end USB
modules from other suppliers provide only narrow functionality and are usually limited to low speed analog input or output only. Because features are limited, users are forced to purchase multiple modules to configure a complete multifunction
system. The DaqBoard/3000USB advantage over using multiple, single-function I/O devices is lowercost, higher-performance, synchronicity, and the convenience of having everything on one board.
Signal connectivity on the DaqBoard/3000USB was designed with OEMs in mind. A 68-pin industry standard SCSI III connector provides access to 16SE/8DE analog inputs, 24 digital I/O, 4 analog outputs, four counters and two timers. Headers on the card also provide access to the same I/O provided by the 68-pin connector along with an additional 48SE/24DE analog inputs (/3035 and /3031 models) for customers who need to interface their own cable and connector scheme. Screw-terminal connections provide access to the four on-board thermocouple inputs.
The DaqBoard/3000USB Series has a unique, low-latency control output mode, where any input – analog, digital, or counter, can control an output – digital, analog, or timer, based on pre-defined limits, including hysteresis. The outputs are controlled directly from the DaqBoard and do not require PC intervention, resulting in response times that are deterministic and measured in micro-seconds, vs. non-deterministic response times measured in milli-seconds for PC-based control outputs. For example, a digital output can be programmed to be a logic 1 when an analog input channel is above 5 volts, and a logic zero when below 5 volts. Unlike other products that require PC software to make decisions, with typical, non-deterministic output rates of 1 to 10 milliseconds, the DaqBoard/3000USB Series can respond to inputs in as fast as 2 Âµs – nearly 1,000 times faster.
Trigger modes are extensive on the DaqBoard, ranging from analog trigger with 1Âµs max latency, to multichannel triggering, where any combination of analog, digital and counter input channels can be combined to initiate the trigger. Other trigger modes include digital pattern, level, edge, inside/outside window, and pre- and post- trigger.
Included with the DaqBoard is the new DaqView(TM) 8.0 software, offering new features such as high-speed scope viewing modes, as well as a host of other data logging features. With included DaqView, most users won’t need to purchase any additional software for the majority of their applications.
Two add-ons to DaqView(TM) are also offered. DaqViewXL/Plus(TM) provides direct real-time export of acquired data to ExcelÂ® spreadsheets, as well as additional graphics and viewing options. DaqView/Pro(TM) includes all of the features of DaqViewXL/Plus, and in addition offers realtime frequency domain analysis functions such as FFTs.
