Samsung has a new Central Station WLED monitor system in 23 inch or 27 inch format. The wireless solution is very unique in that it automatically detects your devices with in the 1 meter range. So as you approach with your laptop, the monitor will automatically sync up with your PC.
In additional the Samsung WLED includes USB ports on the monitor so as your PC approaches, those peripherals hanging off the side will also become usable with your laptop. I should actually re-edit this post and mention netbook as those screens are way too small and something like this would be ideal.
Samsung didn’t get a change to post lag-time between user input on the PC and the reaction of the monitor for said input, but I’d venture to say it’s minimal – Samsung doesn’t cheat corners.
Do you know what Femtocells are? I didn’t know until just the other day when I read an article about AT&T testing Femtocells to boost iPhone reception inside your home. To restate: a femtocell is a device to boost your mobile phone signal. You can say phone booster. Apparently Sprint has been selling this technology for a while and now AT&T is on board to improve their popular selling iPhone.
The goal is to improve your G3 service inside the home via your high speed internet connection. Think of a femtocell as turning your house into a cell phone tower.
Testing is currently taking place through AT&T with expected products to ship the first half of next year. So for those of you in the void, yet addicted to your iPhone, there is hope. And it’s on the way.
Yep, you heard it right. Imation, from my understanding, is the first to offer a USB hard drive that is completely wireless. Well, expect for the power cord.
The Imation Apollo Pro WX is the wireless hard drive with speeds close to that of wired speeds. Since the product isn’t yet available, we’ll need to wait for real-world results, but I’m keeping an optimistic outlook. Mostly because I REALLY want one.
The Apollo Pro WX will use Seagate hard drives and will come in a variety of sizes with a maximum capacity of 1.5TBs. The wireless hard drive solution has a total range of about 30 feet. Meaning your hard drive can sit, by itself, up to 30 feet away from computers and read/write data as though you had a direct connect hard drive. Talk about conveninece, this is it!
Since USB wireless isn’t available on all computers, the Imation wireless hard drive will still come with an available USB port and cable for those who haven’t made the switch.
Along with no price tag, Imation is also vague about release date, just sometime in the fall.
NEC has long had the best performing USB PCI card with their USB host controller chip (uPD720170) and today they are expanding the portfolio to includes wireless USB. The new wireless USB host controller will allow high speed communication between PCs and peripherals with wireless USB technology such as USB hubs, printers and external storage devices.
The NEC wireless USB host controller received approval from the USB Implementors Forum and uses the WHCI protocol developed by Microsoft, NEC, Philips and Texas Intstruments. The Wireless Host Controller Interface specifications supports data transfer rates of up to 480 megabits per second (Mbps) of data, comparable to wired USB 2.0 connections at close range.
The NEC wireless USB host controller starts at $10 for sample and development use with prices dropping at higher quantities.

Gadget4All sent me their Blue Mirror wireless Bluetooth visor car kit for review and I’m glad they did, as California will start enforcing the “mandatory hands free car kits” come July 1st and the ticket is expensive, so this review couldn’t have come at a better time. This is what I found:
Review Summary for Wireless Bluetooth Visor Car Kit:
UPDATE: The bluetooth visor car kit is available at Amazon for immediate delivery. Great product for the quick fix you might need if in California or another state which has a “hands-free” wireless policy.
The wireless visor Bluetooth car kit is well made, easy to operate and performs well. Sound quality is good, setup is easy and user design is well thought out. Strong mounting assembly yet portable and easy to disconnect.
Out Of Box Experience:
The Blue Mirror is packaged well and comes with:
- Main Bluetooth wireless visor kit (5″ x 3″ x .75″)
- Mount clip with very strong magnets
- USB cable (mini to Type A)
- Car power adapter (cigarette style)
The product is simple and intuitive to put together. I was able to charge up the unit in under 1 hour as it was already charged. The full charge time is maximum of 3 hours. You can use either the USB cable and power from a laptop/computer or use the cigarette power adapter in your car along with the USB cable to recharge that way.
Getting odd results off your Wi-Fi network? Maybe getting no results at all? The boss is pissed, co-workers can’t work, what do you do?
Get the Wi-Spy spectrum analyzer, that’s what you do. The Wi-Spy is the world’s smallest 2.4GHz spectrum analyzer and is specifically designed for troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks. The Wi-Spy records data traces over the wireless network and also plays them back for analysis.
This isn’t the first version of the Wi-Spy, BUT the hardware has been redesigned to increase the frequency and amplitude resolution with an added reverse-polarity SMA adapter. Wi-Spy 2.4x is packaged with a powerful little antenna, so it’s good from the start but it’s also
