New digs on the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive
The Microsoft Xbox rumor-mill is at it again because of some new information surfacing about the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive. Without being too specific Microsoft indicated their new 360HD DVD drive will be available sometime during the 3rd quarter of ’06 and failed to point out whether the unit will support the HDMI interface in its HDCP anti-piracy system.
The 360 HD DVD drive hooks up to the Xbox console via mini USB connector and the enclosure contains two more USB ports for additional device connectivity via USB hub. The only other connector is for power, as the video and audio will be output through the Xbox 360. The HD DVD drive will also include the Xbox 360 Universal Media Remote. No word yet on pricing, but again the rumor-mill has the street price between $99-$129USD.
